Development Intern

The Beacon Center Tennessee seeks a part-time development intern. The Development Intern is responsible for assisting in Beacon Center’s fundraising efforts; communicating with donors across all platforms; expanding the Center’s knowledge base regarding prospect and donor research; and maximizing and organizing donor information, next steps, and relationships in Salesforce, the Center’s database. Description:

  • Identifies and qualifies key, likeminded individuals and organizations with potential to become financial supporters
  • Assists development director in thorough, detailed research on prospective donors and grant-making organizations
  • Works directly Salesforce CRM database to develop and organize past steps taken with current donors or prospective donors
  • Coordinates with the director of development to develop appropriate messaging for cultivation of the Center’s major donors
  • Executes regular database entry and updates
  • Researches new ways to efficiently use Salesforce database to better understand and communicate with donors
  • Makes calls or writes emails to thank, set meetings with, or ask for renewals from prospects or donors
  • Reviews and edits documents (such as solicitation letters and grant requests) issued by the Center’s development department
  • Represents the Center with external audiences, specifically low-dollar donors and/or their executive assistants
  • Assists development director in monthly mailings to key donors and prospects

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in performing and compiling thorough, detailed research on individuals and/or organizations
  • Experience using for-profit or nonprofit CRM databases, preferably Salesforce
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, especially via email or phone
  • An understanding of donor or customer relations, and knowledge of political processes related to the state of Tennessee
  • Affinity for liberty and free market principles
