Beacon’s welfare investigation leads to bipartisan reform push

In a recent series of investigative reports, Tennessee Watchdog editor Chris Butler exposed how welfare recipients were using their Electronic Benefit Transaction (EBT) cards on a litany of non-essential items. EBT transactions have taken place at Graceland in Memphis, a bar in Chattanooga, and a strip club in Knoxville, as well as numerous liquor stores, malls, and department stores in the three cities.

As a result of these reports, one focused on Memphis and another on Knoxville and Chattanooga, the governor has made statements about the need to prevent this type of abuse. His sentiment was echoed by House Minority Leader Craig Fitzugh. Read the entire story about this bipartisan call for reform at TNReport.com.
