Beacon's welfare investigation leads to bipartisan reform push

In a recent series of investigative reports, Tennessee Watchdog editor Chris Butler exposed how welfare recipients were using their Electronic Benefit Transaction (EBT) cards on a litany of non-essential items. EBT transactions have taken place at Graceland in Memphis, a bar in Chattanooga, and a strip club in Knoxville, as well as numerous liquor stores, malls, and department stores in the three cities. As a result of these reports, one focused on Memphis and another on Knoxville and Chattanooga, the governor has made statements about the need to prevent this type of abuse.
