Punching above our weight

This week, Beacon was selected as a “Smart Bet” for 2020 by the Atlas Network. Atlas is an international network of think tanks from all over the world. At an upcoming U.S. Investors Summit in New York, just 10 of these think tanks will be given the opportunity to pitch to a group of successful investors and philanthropists for up to $75,000 in grant funding, plus personal support from those in the audience.

I will be making the case that no organization in the free market policy movement punches above its weight more than Beacon. With a staff of just 10 and a budget barely cracking $1.5 million a year, we have accomplished some tremendous things for our fellow Tennesseans. From helping return $500 million a year to taxpayers’ pockets in the form of tax cuts to leading the nation in the reduction in occupational licensing red tape, Beacon does a lot with a little. One of our supporters who donates tens of millions of dollars a year to more than 50 area nonprofits said it best: “Beacon is by far my biggest return on investment.”

We are proud to wear this moniker. It means that we can provide a great value to our supporters, leveraging every dollar they generously provide us into real change that empowers Tennesseans to reclaim control of their lives.

I look forward to presenting to this group of potential future supporters of our mission. At the same time, I hope you will consider becoming part of the Beacon family if you aren’t already. You can click the donate button below and learn more about our membership levels. Recognition like the “Smart Bets” competition shows that we will put your generous gift to good use making Tennesseans’ lives better through sensible public policy.
