World Net Daily and a host of other national news outlets broke the story last night of the order Costco Wholesale’s issued to all of its stores nationwide: Remove ALL copies of Dinesh D’Souza’s bestselling book, “America: Imagine the World Without Her,” from their shelves by July 15th. This of course comes on the heels of D’Souza’s newly released film based on the book, which hit select theaters across the country on July 3rd and strongly rebukes the progressive ideology advanced by the Obama administration and throughout the liberal agenda. D’Souza’s book, released just one day before his film last week, is ranked Number 5 overall and Number 1 in Political Commentary and Opinion on Amazon.com. According to World Net Daily, Costco stores have sold more than 3,600 copies with 700 sold in the first several days of the book’s release. Of course, as a private entity, Costco is legally allowed to sell, or not sell, any product it chooses. Likewise, we Tennesseans are legally—if not morally—empowered to support or refuse to support a corporation that seeks to politically censor its available materials. And revelations of Obama’s cozy relationship with the nation’s second largest retailer make the move all the more alarming. Regardless of whether or not one fully agrees with D’Souza’s assertions, Tennesseans should be weary of such blatant censorship, especially when the move is counterintuitive to the retail chain’s market demand. In Tennessee, there are currently Costco stores in five cities: Brentwood, Cordova, Farragut, Memphis, and Nashville.
